Sublimation is the technology behind every all-over print bag we make. It explains what AOP can and cannot do, and how to brief artwork correctly before sampling.
Process
How sublimation works
Dye is printed onto transfer paper and pressed against polyester fabric at high heat. The dye bonds inside the polyester fibers rather than sitting on top, so the print becomes part of the fabric.
Edge-to-edge coverage
Panels are printed before cutting, enabling artwork across every face of the bag.
Smooth hand-feel
The fabric surface remains smooth because no surface layer is added.
Limits
What sublimation cannot do
No natural fibers
Cotton and true canvas do not hold sublimation dye; polyester content is required.
No white ink
White in the file means unprinted fabric, so base fabric color matters.
Light base fabric
Sublimation dye is transparent and needs a white or light base to show true color.

Common questions before quotation
Is sublimation more expensive than screen printing?
For multi-color or full-coverage designs, sublimation is often more practical because there are no per-color screens. For simple one-color logos, screen printing may fit better.
Why do you need RGB files instead of CMYK?
Our print workflow and fabric ICC profiles are RGB-based; converting early can narrow the color gamut before proofing.
Can you sublimate onto a bag that is already sewn?
No. Panels must be printed flat before cutting and sewing, which is why AOP projects start from artwork and templates.
How long do sublimation prints last?
Because dye lives inside the fiber, prints resist washing and abrasion better than surface-applied methods.
